Equine Rehoming Caseworker

This role involves combining general yard duties with the training and development of our equines to prepare them for new homes. You will also be primarily responsible for the advertising, promoting and rehoming of specific equines as part of your Caseworker/Rehomer role. You will ensure that all equine training and handling follows ethical evidence-based methods. Reporting directly to the Team Leader you will take be expected to work independently in carrying out daily care of both equines and caprines. You will be expected to maintain high standards of cleanliness in all equine and field animal areas and always demonstrate personal professionalism. An ability to deal sympathetically with members of the public is an essential part of this role. You will also be required to participate in equine related workshops and activities from time to time and the delivery of educational programmes and demonstrations. Main Duties · To work alongside other staff and volunteers allocated to the equine area as part of a team ensuring an efficient and well-run yard and the highest standards of horse and field animal welfare. · To undertake daily care of all equines and field animals, ensuring appropriate feed, water and bedding, mucking out where required. · To ensure high standards of cleanliness and presentation of all equine and field animal areas · To liaise with the vet, farrier and any other equine suppliers/service providers when required to do so. · To maintain accurate animal records on the charity databases. · To ensure all interaction with equines takes place in a calm, considerate and reassuring manner providing positive reinforcement for desirable behaviours. · To administer medications and treatments as required and in accordance with veterinary and manufacturers guidelines including dosage and application. · To bring on horses and ponies to be handled routinely and trained where appropriate. · To exercise horses and ponies both on the ground or ridden as and when required. · To follow all safety guidelines, making appropriate use of all safety equipment provided, and to take responsible steps to maintain your own health and safety and that of your colleagues and any visitors to the site. · To regularly contribute to processes and practices to ensure that effective and legible records are kept regarding horses’ care, medications, behaviours, temperament and history. · To communicate professionally with members of the public and adoption applicants including by telephone, email, or in person. · To provide horse care and behaviour advice to adopters, fosterers, members of the public and visitors as required. · To conduct home visits both prior to adoption and as part of annual welfare checks. · Maintain and practice an awareness of current equine welfare issues and proactively managing your own professional development through CPD. · To participate in, and help develop and coordinate, equine and field animal community-based activities and proactively participate in whole-charity initiatives and events, including fundraising. · To liaise with the Equine Team Leader and undertake any other duties as directed.
