An exciting new opportunity has arisen to join us as an Equine Welfare Team Leader. This role will involve working closely with our other Equine Welfare Team Leaders and the Equine Welfare Management Team to efficiently run the day-to-day activities of Walklands yard in order to fulfil the objectives of the charity. Walklands yard cares for around 80 horses and ponies, managing many geriatric equines with additional Veterinary needs who are under our sanctuary care.
The Team Leader will lead and develop a team of around 14 Equine Welfare Assistants; effectively managing the rota and problem solving to ensure the physical and behavioural needs of all equines are met. This role will require regular assessment of quality of life for equines and therefore be involved in making end of life decisions and supporting the team with this.
The ideal candidate
We are looking for someone with the following:
• Significant industry experience and demonstrable skills and experience both working with equines and managing a team
• A keen interest in equine behaviour science and ethology, ensuring the team work with an understanding and awareness of each equine as an individual
• Practical experience in equine associated health conditions and comprehensive knowledge of the management systems for these
• Be effective in both verbal and written communications and have the ability to communicate confidently at all levels of authority within the organisation
• Experience of leading and developing a team whilst being a role model for enthusiasm, positivity and flexibility
• A good level of IT skills and understand the importance of following policies and procedures
