Equine Yard Manager

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Yard Manager to oversee daily operations at our well-established livery yard of 25 Full/assisted liveries (and a few DIYs). This role will involve managing the yard's services, overseeing 1 apprentice and ensuring excellent care for our horses. The successful candidate will have strong leadership skills, a passion for horse care, and the ability to adapt to the evolving needs of the business. All our horses are treated with kindness and respect and most of all listened to! We run a calm yard where horses can be horses and enjoy herd turnout and stables where they can still interact. We are a friendly non- judgemental yard ranging from owners who just groom their horses to some who compete. A sense of humour is a must! As we are a busy working farm, the role will occasionally require assistance with light farm duties. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Yard Management: Oversee the daily running of the livery yard, ensuring high standards of cleanliness, safety, and horse care. Maintain yard facilities and equipment and ensure they are in good working order. Horse Care: Supervise and carry out the general welfare needs of the horses, including feeding, grooming, mucking out, and ensuring their overall health. Monitor and report on the condition of horses under your care, liaising with veterinarians, farriers, and other professionals as needed. Customer Relations: Maintain positive relationships with horse owners, answering inquiries, addressing concerns, and ensuring customer satisfaction. Work to retain clients and generate new business by offering exceptional service. Holiday Accommodation: Helping on Changeover days with the emptying and refilling of hot tubs and testing chemical levels. Full training will be given. Driving: Occasional help with taking children to school and collecting. Picking up equine medication from the vets and some other driving duties. (Fuel will be paid at 40ppm) REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS: • Previous experience in horse care and livery yard management • Equine management qualifications desirable or relevant certification. • Strong leadership skills. • Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to multitask and prioritise effectively. • Knowledge of horse care, including feeding, medical care health monitoring, grooming, and mucking out. • A strong understanding of health and safety protocols in an equestrian environment. • Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to maintain positive relationships with clients, staff, and suppliers. • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. • Basic administrative and financial management skills (e.g., record-keeping using our yard app). • First Aid and Health & Safety training are desirable. • Full UK driving license. • Confident to exercise sensible livery horses.
