At Equine Register, we build trusted digital infrastructure for the equine world.
In the UK, we run the Central Equine Database (CED) on behalf of Defra, maintaining over 1.8 million horse records. It’s a legally mandated system that underpins national traceability, biosecurity, and welfare.
We also operate the Digital Stable — our companion app and web platform — which helps horse owners manage their personal and animal records easily and securely.
We're now expanding internationally, with Digital Stable live in Canada and the US, providing a simple, unified solution for owners, breeders, and keepers to manage all their equine information in one place.
The Role
You’ll work on the core backend services that power our digital products, building secure APIs, data pipelines, and integrations with public and private sector systems. We process sensitive identity, regulatory, and health data, so clean architecture, performance, and security are key.
This is an ideal role for a mid-level engineer looking to deepen their backend expertise in a purpose-led and fast-growing team. Working with our senior Go developers, we’ll progress you to the next level and beyond.

Contribute to system design and architecture discussions.
Write clean, well-tested, and well-documented code.
Participate in code reviews and agile ceremonies.
Work alongside DevOps engineers to improve CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure.
Help ensure our systems remain performant, reliable, and secure as we scale.
What We’re Looking For
2–4 years of software engineering experience, with at least 1–2 years in Go.
Strong understanding of backend architecture and microservices.
Experience working with REST APIs, databases (PostgreSQL preferred), and transports such as pub/sub and queues in a cloud hosted environment (AWS).
Familiarity with Docker and containerised deployments.
Understanding of API authentication and secure data practices (OAuth, JWT, etc.).
Comfortable in a startup/scale-up environment — collaborative, pragmatic, and proactive.
Bonus Points For
Experience working in regulated environments (govtech, identity, animal health, etc.).
Familiarity with cloud infrastructure (especially AWS).
Exposure to event-driven systems
Interest or experience in equine, agricultural, or veterinary domains.
Knowledge of Agricultural industry especially in relation to horses
