Hopefield Animal Sanctuary is home to over 600 rescued, neglected, and unwanted animals, where we provide them with a loving home for life. Our ethos is that our animals can live out the rest of their lives at the sanctuary, safe and free from harm. We don’t believe in disciplining our animals but instead altering our ways to suit each of their special needs. As rescue animals, they all have their quirks and different characters that we all learn to love. This is an incredibly rewarding position. Responsibilities: • Helping care for 60+ equine residents including horses, ponies, miniatures, and donkeys. You will be expected to clean and muck out stables to a high standard. • You will be responsible for feeding, hay, watering, grooming etc. • You will be assisting with the administration of medication – as a sanctuary, many of our horses are elderly or suffer from medical conditions. • You may need to supervise volunteers. Our volunteers must be respected at all times and shown the gratitude due, for giving up their time for free. • You may also be expected to work on some of our other sections (smallies, farm, or exotics) should we need an additional pair of hands. You will need to be: • Hard working and willing to get stuck in • Experienced with horses (essential) – this position is not suitable for people seeking a career change with no prior experience. • Passionate about animal care • A team player • Proactive and enthusiastic • Sensitive towards the needs of volunteers • Willing to carry out a wide range of tasks You will have a 30-minute unpaid tea break, and a 60-minute unpaid lunch break.
